Healthy Back for 2015

Here at Lake Worth Chiropractic and Wellness, we would like to help you keep your back healthy in 2015 with these tips from our chiropractor.

Utilize Proper Posture

Practicing good posture while sitting and standing minimizes the stress on your back. When sitting at your desk, make sure your chair is adjusted so that your hips are resting slightly below the line of your knees, keep your feet flat on the floor and make sure your monitors are at a height that allows you to look straight ahead instead of up or down. It is also important that your keyboard is positioned so that your wrists and forearms form a straight line. By doing these things you are minimizing the risk of back, shoulder and neck injuries.

Standing for long periods of time can put pressure on your back and cause lower back injuries and pain. To minimize the risk of injury, always stand with your knees slightly bent and keep one foot slightly forward of the other. This will help keep your lower back properly aligned and reduce the stress and pressure on your vertebrae and muscles.

Maintain Proper Weight

Utilize a healthy diet and exercise to keep your weight within your ideal range and your back strong. Carrying extra weight, especially a large gut, puts pressure on your lower back and can pull the vertebrae out of alignment. By exercising on a regular basis and performing crunches, back extensions and other core exercises, you can keep your back muscles strong and reduce the risk of back injuries.

Keep Your Spine Aligned

Chiropractic care from our chiropractor in Lake Worth can help keep your back properly aligned. The foundation of our various treatment programs is the chiropractic adjustment. Manual adjustments involve short, quick thrusts that are designed to push your vertebrae back into the proper alignment. When your back is properly aligned, your risk of injury is decreased, and the flexibility and range of motion of your spine is improved.

If you do injure your back, we can diagnose the source of your injury and recommend various holistic treatments in order to reduce your pain and heal the injury, including manual adjustments, physical therapy and massage therapy.
