Lake Worth Chiropractic & Wellness Discusses Sciatica Treatment

Patient at Lake Worth Chiropractic & Wellness suffering from sciatica pain

If you have suffered an injury after an auto accident, you are not alone. There are nearly 250,000 vehicle crashes in this state each year, according to the Florida Department of Motor Vehicles. Many accident victims develop sciatica, a nerve condition that causes pain down one or both legs. Fortunately, our chiropractor at Lake Worth Chiropractic & Wellness can provide sciatica treatment to help you heal after your car crash.

What is Sciatica?

The spinal column is a series of bones, known as vertebrae, stacked on top of one another like a deck of cards. This configuration allows you to bend forward, arch your back and lean to either side. The spinal column houses the spinal cord, which is a bundle of nerves that go from your brain, down your spine and outwards to the rest of your body. Individual nerves bend away from the spinal cord, through tiny canals between each vertebra then downwards to your arms, legs and organs.

Sciatica refers to pain affecting your back, hip and the outside of your leg. It occurs when something presses against the sciatic nerve, which is the nerve that runs from your spinal cord to your lower back, buttocks and down each leg.

Sciatic pain might burn or produce a ‘pins and needles’ or tingling sensation. Symptoms typically appear on only one side of the body.

In most cases, symptoms of sciatica will fade after just a few weeks without treatment. Waiting, however, is very uncomfortable and unnecessary.

Sciatica Due to Auto Accident

Soft rubbery disks cushion the vertebrae so that the bones do not grind against each other as you move. Inside each disk is a jelly-like substance that provides even more cushion and help vertebrae stay in place. A spinal injury, especially one resulting from the tremendous force of an auto accident, can rupture the disk in a way that allows the gooey inner substance ooze out of its shell, a condition known as a herniated disk. The gelatinous substance irritates nearby nerves, which causes the nerves to send pain signals to your brain, resulting in symptoms of sciatica.

Contact your Lake Worth Chiropractic & Wellness for Sciatica Treatment

When you visit Lake Worth Chiropractic & Wellness, Dr. Jack Cacic, will carefully review your medical history and the details of the car accident then conduct a physical examination to verify the underlying cause of your sciatica. Our chiropractic professionals will then develop a personalized treatment plan that may include chiropractic adjustments and comprehensive pain management to reduce symptoms of sciatica.

Treatment for sciatica centers on alleviating pressure on the sciatic nerve. Chiropractic adjustments make sure the bones of your spine are not pressing against your sciatic nerve.
