5 Car & Driving Safety Tips This Holiday Season

When we think of auto safety, common sense rules the day. But add in the holiday stress and bad weather and the rules seem to go out the window. Driving safety rules are even more important during the holiday season. People who rarely drive are out on the road, the weather can make driving hazardous, and holiday stress can cause you to be distracted and not pay attention to the cars around you. Here at Lake Worth Chiropractic & Wellness we see patients every year who have been in a car accident and have chronic pain because of it.  You'll have less of a chance of crashing if you're prepared and use common sense while you're on the road.

Tips from Your Lake Worth Chiropractor

  1. Maintain your vehicle. Have your oil changed, check your tires and rotate or replace them as needed, fill the washer fluid, and check the radiator fluid. The middle of a snowstorm is the last place you want to break down because of a missed maintenance check.
  2. Take your time. We know you're hurried and short on time, but try leaving earlier to avoid feeling so rushed. If you're driving a long distance, consider going one day earlier if you'll be hitting the biggest holiday traffic jams. If you're not in such a rush you'll be much less stressed out while on the road.
  3. Use roadside assistance. If your car is stuck in the snow and you can't drive it out, don't get out and push. Not only is there a danger of another car hitting you, you can do real damage to your back by pushing such a heavy object. Make the call and wait for the professionals.
  4. Keep your cell phone charged. Things happen, and it's crucial that you be able to call for help if needed. Keep a charger in your car for those times you forget.
  5. Map your route in advance. Use the navigation app on your phone. Download a free one if you don't have one already. Knowing where to go will avoid needless driving while lost in the cold.
