Because we get so many patients who suffer from sciatica pain, Dr. Cacic and our chiropractic staff often receive questions about this condition, contributing factors and what can be done in terms of
pain management. We like to keep our patients educated and proactive when it comes to improving the condition of their health and wellness.
Pain Management is Key
Our
Lake Worth chiropractor and staff often first see sciatica patients after some type of injury or accident. Sciatica occurs when the sciatic nerve, the longest peripheral nerve in the human body, is damaged. The sciatic nerve starts at the end of the spinal column and continues through the leg, and straight down to the foot.
The pain of
sciatica is very often caused by a herniated spinal disc. This occurs when the cushions in between the vertebrae in your spinal column ruptures, and the disc is pushed outwards. When the disc starts to take over the area where the nerves are, the nerves become compressed. Compressed nerves send signals of pain through the back, down the leg, and into the feet.
Patients with sciatica will often experience low
back pain along with numbness or a tingling feeling in the legs or foot. Chiropractic care is designed to relieve the pressure on the compressed nerves, and to move vertebrae back into alignment if they have become misaligned. Chiropractic care is an excellent way to provide
pain management for sciatica, and we never use invasive or dangerous techniques. In some cases, massage therapy is combined with chiropractic treatment and used for even faster relief of pain.
