5 Tips for Dining Out


Between working, picking up the kids from school and evening activities, eating on the go is sometimes unavoidable. Whether you decide to stop in at your favorite neighborhood restaurant, or pick up carry out, there are many healthy options around you. The key is to do your research and make the right choices.

Here are 5 tips for healthy eating on the go:

1.Think before you eat. Go online and check the menu for healthy alternatives before you decide on where to dine. Look for the low- calorie menu and pick a meal that is high in lean protein and vegetables.

2. An easy way to boost nutritional intake is to substitute empty calories, such as French fries, with steamed vegetables or a side salad.  Never feel shy about asking for a healthy alternative, most restaurants would be happy to make accommodations.

3. Must have an appetizer? Pick something light, like a chicken noodle soup, and follow it with a light dinner.

4. If you can’t control your servings, avoid all you can eat promotions and buffet style restaurants. If you must go to a buffet, start off with a healthy and filling salad.

5. Just can’t say “no” to a dessert? If your sweet tooth can’t resist, then order one dessert with plenty of spoons to share.
